I wonder whether the current generation of young people will have trouble navigating their own cities when (and IF!) they learn to drive.
Some kid was asking me where a certain store was the other day and I was describing it in relationship to other stores and landmarks (as it's just around the corner from us) and he didn't recognise any of the things I mentioned.
It struck me today that to the extent that kids ride in cars now either playing with electronics or reading or watching seatback TVs, they aren't seeing where they are being driven and don't get a visual sense of their own neighbourhoods. I have to wonder what the effect of that will be when (and IF) they become drivers.
Of course in a world of nav systems and Google maps and eventually driverless cars, perhaps this isn't so important, but still.... And I have no idea, of course, if prior generations were any better about this than "kids today." I was also never a reader in the car as I liked watching where we were going.
Anyway, this is what my brain does when I'm out running errands.
