So you're a super iPhone fanboy/fangirl and you just bought the iPhone X, you're super excited, this is everything you have ever wanted for weeks and suddenly ... your knees are weak, arms are heavy, palms are sweaty and the phone slips out of your sweaty hands, now the screen is looking like mom's spaghetti.
The Wolverine of phone screens
Thanks to researcher Chao Wang, you won't need to worry about your cellphone's screen being cracked. Chao Wang and his team have worked up a ground breaking self-healing material. You may have heard of the LG G Flex 2 smartphone that heals itself when its cover gets scratched, but that's just the cover and not the screen, this is because the material used on the cover of the phone had noncovalent bonds that were not ideal for surfaces that need to conduct electricity, like the screen of a phone. This is where Chao Wang and his team step in, they made a material that is made up of ion-dipole interactions, which is a type of force between charged ions and polar molecules and is good for conducting electricity. The material can return to its original state whether it has been torn up into pieces or has been stretched out as far as it possibly can, which is said to be about 50 times its original size.
When can you expect smartphones to have this?
Wang predicts that your smartphone companies will all be using self-healing products within just 3 years. He says that they will use it so that it can heal your screen and battery and it shouldn't affect price too much because the components used to make this material is relatively cheap.
So are you excited for your phone to be as durable as Wolverine? I'm really excited but I certainly will miss making fun of how fragile iPhones are. Let me know your thoughts in the comment sections and don't forget to upvote, follow and resteem.
