For the next 18 hours, Intel is offering a chance to win a 5GHz i7 8086K Limited Edition CPU.
It’s been 40 years since we forever changed computing with the x86 architecture and the 8086 processor. Since then, the reasons why we use our computers and how they influence everyday life have changed dramatically. Explore how several prominent gamers and creators have seen their lives changed since they were first introduced to the PC.
The CPU is the first Intel CPU to break 5GHz without overclocking and has 6 cores. Only 50,000 will ever be made of this limited edition model. I highly suspect they will be worth far more due to the limited run and sell for more than the $400 estimated street price of the regular release version.
You can sign up for the drawing here be warned though that multiple entries will get you disqualified.
The model number is a tribute to the original x86 "8086" Processor.
I've been trying to get a CPU with more than 4 cores for a long time but their single core performance has been considerably lower than 4 core processors. In most applications, single core performance is more important than how many total cores on the chip.
