A long time ago, land indicated power.

The more land you had, the more powerful you were.

So the farmers were seen as the G's of the era.

Then the industrial age came & things changed up.

In this age, it was all about machines.

If you had machines, then you had all the power.

But nowadays, it's all about data/information.

Those who have the 2 are the powerful ones.

Companies like Facebook, Google search engines & Amazon are the behemoths in our generation.

Pretty fascinating to see it play out.

Data & information are not the same though.

Data is just a jumble of content.

Information is refined data meant for practical uses.

So those who are powerful in our age, know how to provide information.

The beauty is that nowadays everyone has a fair shot.

The internet doesn't see gender, colors, ethnicity etc.

It just sees value added.

Here's the problem though.

Many still have the industrial age mindset in the information age.

The industrial age raised a lot of factory workers.

During that era, the goal was to have workers who could do repetitive tasks to keep the machines running.

Those who knew how to follow orders kept the business thriving.

But that sort of mindset isn't going to have you progressing nowadays.

Heck, if your task is too repetitive, then it's going to be taken by a software in due time.

The way that you thrive in the information age is to become a better communicator.

Your goal is to turn data into information & provide value to people's lives.

The data is your experiences.

The information is the story.

Take this blog post for example.

If I just told you random experiences that I went through in unstructured fragments, you'd leave in utter confusion.

But the fact that this is a storytelling blog allows you to be left with meaningful information.

And the fact that I speak about my experiences makes the content unique.

Stuff typically not found on Google.

'Can I copy and paste content from Google and call that information?'

Nah...

Any bubba can do that.

That may have worked a few years back, but it will soon be pointless.

Thriving in in the information age is going to require storytelling.

Which is why you need to get a head start in making sense of your own experiences.

The winners of our generation will create their own languages.

Yea...

I mentioned in a previous article, that your skills intertwine & give birth to something brand new.

For example. I invested a lot of my time into storytelling, engineering and entrepreneurship.

At first, they were all isolated skills.

Nowadays, all the isolated acts have combined with my experiences & allow me to view the world from a new lens.

Let me give you another example.

I have a friend who is starting a Keto company, is a financial analyst & into extreme sports.

At first, these were isolated skills.

But after practicing them for so long, they have now combined & he speaks a new language.

He was recently seeing parallels between hiking & Microsoft Excel.

Let's just say that information will not be duplicated...

He can now provide insights from out of this world.

The main takeaway from this blog post is to remind you that times are changing.

Doing repetitive tasks will no longer cut it.

The digital age is going to require you to create/discover your story.

The story is the information that will allow you to thrive.

And the best story is the one designed from a new language.

New language = Combination of your skills/experiences.
