Hola friends!
Today is a special day because I’m not going to post anything about food. Instead I’m giving you 10 “interesting” random facts about me. Usually I shy away from such details openly shared online but my friend @delishtreats nominated me to participate in this challenge put on by @twodorks (what a cool name).
Follow me as I stumble through this #gettoknowme challenge:
1- I speak 1 and 1/2 languages.🤪
I say 1 and 1/2 because I am a native English speaker and have been learning Spanish for well over a year now. Although I am not yet fluent I practice on my Duolingo app every single day for at least 30 minutes. Today marks my 478th day in row. Hopefully by this time next year I’ll be more proficient!
2- Up until a few years ago acrobats used to be my party trick.
When I was 3 years old my Mom enrolled me in gymnastics and there I stayed until 14. I had dreams of making it to the olympics but when I saw how puberty was hitting all of my friends and leaving me out, I reconsidered this dream. So, I quit and became a coach (yes, I worked at 14) while playing competitive soccer. This is where I found my love for running 😉
3 - My teeth were silver as a child.
Apparently I loved apple juice and never cared very much for milk so apple juice it was. My teeth weren’t as big of fans as I was and the dentist crowned my 4 front teeth. I have always been a bit sassy and imagine that developed during those years. Everybody knows how kids can be. Luckily they were only my baby teeth so today my smile sparkles. To date I have never had a cavity 🤷🏼♀️.
4- Vampires are my favorite mystical creature.
Some like unicorns, others like zombies, I have always been enamored by vampires. Maybe that’s where my affinity for garlic comes from 🤔. This has always been the case even as a little girl. I read all of the Twilight books within a week, way before the movies came out. I was also a huge fan of HBO’s True Blood. Haha…
5- In college I lived off of hot tamales and string cheese.
I swear I was so healthy running several miles a day and fitting into the tiniest of sizes but am sure now I was only nutrient deficient. I can’t even believe my body held up on me. Eating a box of hot tamales a day accompanied by 3 pieces of string cheese and a Hansen’s diet root beer is not a healthy diet 🤦🏼♀️. I have since found a better way- thank God.
6- God and I are close.
My parents didn’t raise us in the church nor do I go on my own now, but God has been a big part of my life since I was 21. I still remember the day it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have my Dad to thank for this one (he brought me God and Bruce Lee, “always the genius, Dad”).😇
7- Riding on the back of a Harley is one of my favorite pastimes.
This photo was taken of @dandays and I riding Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee. It actually runs through the Carolina’s and is supposed to be the windiest road in the world. Nonetheless it’s a beautiful ride. Unfortunately we rolled up on 3 different motorcycle accidents that day. It was a bit harrowing to say the least, but everyone walked away so that was good. We took it really easy on all of those turns. Dandays only scraped the side of the bike once, it scared the beejeezus out of me.
8- Dogs are the best.
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve had a dog but they are truly the most lovable angels I know of. As a child we had a German Shepard named Rocky. My Mom and Dad thought it was funny to call him Rockalito Montoya. I don’t know if that’s a famous boxers name or what. My parents have always been free spirits. Kiki was our dog in high school. She stayed with us up until 5 years ago when she moved on to reunite with Rocky and Dad. Funny story alert:
When Dandays and I first met he came to visit me for a weekend. Kiki was pretty old and didn’t move a whole lot but always appreciated good pets and some table scraps if you had any. My mom had just brought back deli sandwiches from subway when we all decided to go to the garage to look at something. When we returned Kiki had opened up and eaten @dandays’ entire sandwich. It wasn’t even a reasonable sandwich but a foot long spicy Italian with pepperoncini’s, spicy mustard and hot chipotle sauce. When we discovered this, Kiki just looked up at us like “what, nothing…”. Haha
Dogs are the best!
9- 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and classic rock are awesome but flawlessly being able to rap a Tupac or Too Short song is the shizz.
I really do love all kinds of music. During my morning jog it’s usually 80’s, sometimes a mix of rock music, but once in a while there’s a need to spit some true gangster rap. I grew up with Tupac, Andre Nikatina, Too Short and Dr. Dre among many others, so to hear me spit a rap in the middle of a party isn’t such a bizarre occurrence 🤷🏼♀️. I will also sing the crap out of the classics like Elton John’s Tiny Dancer but say Tony Danza… I’ve been known to miff the words of many songs like this.
10- Marrying my husband was the best thing I’ve ever done.
I know what you’re thinking, “come on guys get a room” but marrying @dandays has seriously been the best decision I’ve ever made. We met on a cruise ship (@lynncoyle1, we weren’t wearing shiny track suits, promise) and a few phone calls later I was hopelessly, utterly, undeniably in love. Since then he’s only grown on me more. He’s taught me how to take care of and love myself, which is a gift I could never repay. @dandays, you are truly the best thing I have ever done! Muah
Now, I suppose it’s my turn to make a couple nominations… I’d really love to read more about @edprivat , @dandays , @plantstoplanks and @weirdheadaches. Would you four join us in this #gettoknowme challenge?
Thank you @delishtreats for the nomination. At first I was skeptical but come to find out it was really easy to talk about myself. Go figure 🤷🏼♀️.
Bonus tidbit:
When I laugh I break out into a full body sweat 🤦🏼♀️ Who knows what that’s about?!?
Pura Vida ✌️
