Tesla announced plans to create the Gigafactory. The factory will be the largest manufacturing building in the world by footprint and will produce batteries for electric cars on a massive scale. The footprint of the factory is roughly 6 million square feet which is the equivalent of 93 Boeing 747 jets. It was carefully designed to pack as much equipment as possible into as small of a space as possible. The Gigafactory will have a larger output than all the current lithium ion battery factories combined.
The factory operates like a giant autonomous computer with raw material delivered to one side of the building and completed product rolling out the other side. Everything is designed to ensure the manufacturing process is streamlined and cost effective.
Moving the world to renewable energy sources is exactly what we need, big thumbs up to Elon.
