A month ago I wrote this post:
So long and thanks for all the fish
In this post I highlighted how my social media consumption was getting out of hand and I needed to reign it in.
So I took a month off and found that I don't miss social media at all. I've got Viber and texting for starters if I want to communicate with my friends. As such I've deleted my Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads accounts.
Most of what I wanted to write is for my own benefit so I've started to make more use of Journal in iOS and I'm loving it.
My biggest dilemma was whether or not to continue using Hive in whatever guise. I've made the decision to continue using Hive but I'm going to go in a completely different direction with it.
During the course of my holiday in the Coromandel, I was thinking long and hard about what I want to do online, if I wanted to continue with it at all. I decided that I will continue with my plans but I need to have a clear and focused use of this platform.
To this point I decided I will be making much more use of Communities with all my new articles either going to be in the BuildIt community for my DIY posts or in the STEMGeeks community for my technology posts.
I was thinking of "deleting" (I say that in quotes because Hive offers no option - so much for having full control) my old posts but I decided to keep them as is so you can see how this blog has changed over time.
I have decided that I won't do any short form posts so I won't be utilising d.Buzz or Waves or anything like that. I've never really liked short form posting anyway. Please note that I'm not saying I dislike D.Buzz or Waves or the like, I just don't like writing short posts. I feel I can't express what I'm trying to say very well. Typical bloke I am.
I'm quite excited for this change in direction. I love DIY and I love technology and both are very much who I am. Hopefully I've got something to say that you enjoy.
