By now you may know that the good folks from Itínera Theater (yours truly included) are having a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for our "Cultural Eco-Center" - the first fully autonomous theater in the world. If not, I urge you to follow these links to find our more about this amazing project! Once you've done so, you will be familiar with our campaign video, which has been described as goofy, funny, silly, but ultimately informative about the purpose of our campaign.
What About That Newspaper?
Some of our more enthusiastic followers have expressed their curiosity about the newspaper, where I happened to first read about "Mazunte? ... Theater? ... Puppets???" prompting me to investigate. What kind of weird publication is this, with such a striking resemblance to a famous Mexican paper? And what exactly does the article say? Well, now you won't have to wait any longer, and there's no need to examine your screen with a magnifying glass, because we have it all here for you to read in English:
THE UNIVERSE - INCREDIBLE BUT TRUE
Three Puppets Want to Build an Eco-Theater in Mazunte
... All this is happening in Mazunte, a small town near the beach on the Oaxacan coast.
They are small but pretty tough. Their bodies are made of wood and they have no threads attached. They seem to go through life without a puppeteer, scoffing at being so free. For some time now, the rumor has spread that these three puppets are trying at all costs to build a theater on the coast.
"We Want Artists to Come From All Over the World."
But it is not exactly a puppet theater. Or at least, it's not just for hand-puppets, or the ones hanging on strings. It is said that they want to build a place for artists from all over the world, preferably humans. What causes the most sensation is that these humans should not be just actors but artists of all areas, of all shapes, of all colors.
What has shocked the population the most, is that you don't have to be an artist to be part of this place either, you can come just to watch, learn, or create new ideas.
"We Are Not as Small as We Look."
If you are a Thai foodie who likes to paint recycled material with natural pigments, you are welcome. If you are a Nigerian tightrope walker who sings and dances while crossing from one place to another, you will be very well received. If you are the singer of Kafka's village of mice, you can come without a problem. If you have the stature of Tolouse Lautrec, or if you paint with your feet, this is most certainly the place for you.
