The Sight & Sound Theatre is currently celebrating the 30th Anniversary of "Noah" at their Ronks, Pennsylvania, location. According to their website, this is the show that put them on the map! For obvious reasons, it uses the most live animals of any of their shows. This was the first show to play there after their big fire in 1997. Watching the behind-the-scenes videos on their website, I learned that it was "Noah" that set the bar for their live productions, which if you have never seen one, you have no idea what you are missing!
Having seen the production for the first time last week, I was left in awe of their sets even though I have seen some of their other spectacular shows. When Act 2 opened with the set representing the inside of the Ark taking up space on all three stages, I didn't know what to think. I also didn't know where to look as the Ark was filled with live animals, animatronics and some costume animals, with the latter being hysterical.
The music and vocals were top notch, in which I particularly loved the vocalization of the evil king. When Godless men tried to burn down the Ark, it almost seemed like a retelling of their own experience of losing the theatre to a fire. Just as the owners of this theatre had a calling, Noah knew that God didn't want him to throw in the towel. Sight & Sound also had a calling to start their own Conservatory and after Covid hit, they brought the stories into people's homes with Sight & Sound TV.
Noah was living in a Godless world, but it was Noah's family's faith in God that saved them from the flood. I always leave this theatre feeling good. Hope is much needed in today's world as people do many head-scratching things. I am just glad that we have places like this that are keeping God's word alive!
