My Royal Welsh Adventure 🇬🇧🐴
Earlier this week, I had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Royal Welsh Show, and it turned out to be one of the most fun and memorable trips I’ve had in a while! From relaxing countryside moments to action-packed showground adventures, here’s a little recap of my time away.
✨ The Cottage in Hay-on-Wye
We set off for the Royal Welsh on a Tuesday, so the night before we stayed in a gorgeous little cottage in Hay-on-Wye. It was super clean, really pretty, and the owner was incredibly kind – the kind of place that instantly makes you feel at home.
TINY DOOR🥰
After we arrived and settled in, my mum and I went for a little wander and found the cutest pub just around the corner. We had a couple of drinks, played some pool (I won twice 😄), and just enjoyed the cozy vibe. Then my auntie called to say she’d arrived too, so we headed back to the cottage to get ready for dinner.
We didn’t have to go far – right opposite the cottage was a restaurant called The Three Tuns, which turned out to be a total gem. The food was absolutely delicious (and surprisingly affordable), the staff were really friendly, and the service was spot on. After our meal, we headed back to the cottage, changed into our PJs, popped on a film, and all snuggled up for the night.

🎡 Royal Welsh Show Day!
The next morning we were up and ready for the big event! The showground was about a 45-minute drive from where we were staying. We parked in a field called North 18, then hopped on a shuttle bus that took us straight to the Royal Welsh entrance.
The moment we stepped in, me and my cousin spotted a colourful slushy stall – we beelined straight for it. At £6 for the first one and £5 for refills, it was well worth every sip! 🥤
We wandered through the show, soaking up the atmosphere and exploring all the different areas. One of our first stops was the horse section – the horses were absolutely stunning, each one with its own personality and style.
Then we saw the horse and carriage displays, which were so elegant and impressive. The horses were beautifully groomed, and it felt like stepping back in time watching them gracefully pull the carriages around the arena.
After that, we went to see the cows and sheep, which was really interesting – especially because we also got to watch an amazing sheep display. A man spoke to the crowd, explaining all the different breeds of sheep you can find in Wales (which was way more than I expected!), and he clearly knew so much about them. One of the coolest parts was seeing a man actually shear a sheep live, showing just how much wool one sheep can produce – it was such a cool experience!
And of course, the highlight for me was the Ukrainian Cossacks. Their performance was breathtaking – the tricks, the energy, the precision… absolutely unreal. Massive respect to them 👏.
We also checked out the market stalls, where I treated myself to a real sheep fur blanket for £75 – worth every penny. Big thank you to the lovely lady who made it 😊. I also picked up a jar of gorgeous honey, which I’ve been eating a spoonful of each day because it’s just that good.
Another one of my personal favourite parts was the Army section of the show. There was so much to see – from helicopters and guns you could hold to medical gear and loads of information about different roles in the military. I had a great chat with one of the guys there, who told me all about the jobs you can do. He even gave me some leaflets, and I really appreciated how friendly and helpful he was.
There were ziplines, tractors (which my auntie and uncle loved), and just endless cool stuff to look at and do.
I also got some chocolate covered strawberrys😍🥰
🍕 One Last Night in Hay
When it was time to head home, we took the North 18 shuttle back to the car. The staff were super kind and helped us with everything, which was really appreciated after a long day.
Once we got back to the cottage, I dashed across the road to grab a menu (priorities! 😅) and brought it back for everyone. Soon after, we headed over for our final dinner at The Three Tuns, and yes – I got that amazing pizza again. We all sat around chatting about our favourite parts of the trip. Since we don’t get to see each other often (with us living in Wales and them in England), it was such a lovely way to end the day together.
🌅 Heading Home
The next morning we were up around 9am (checkout was 10am), packed everything up, gave the place a quick tidy, and said a big thank you to the sweet lady who owned the cottage. She was so lovely again, and we’re all hoping we’ll get to stay there another time.
Overall? 1000000/10 trip.
Good food, great company, beautiful animals, and so many memories made. If you ever get the chance to go to the Royal Welsh – do it. You won’t regret it!
Oh and one last thing...
