So last night I got four continuous hours of sleep for the first time since my surgery. This may sound abysmally low, but for me it was like a breakthrough.
Of course, since I am on a piggyback medication schedule, alternately taking tylenol and advil every two hours, I woke up in pain as I think it was about 5.5 hours between medicines. But I refuse to go back to the Oxycodone and the constipation that comes with that.
After some sleep I decided that today was the day I was going to work on being human again. For that, we need the three S's.

Of course the first S is the shit. And we know I've been having some issues with that, but now everything is just kind of runny and comes out as a soft mess. Maybe overdoing the stool softener a little bit, but better that than constipation.

The Second S is a shower. A good hot one. I've spent plenty of time in the tub the last few days. But it has been laying there letting hot water soak my poor bum. I needed to stand up, get out the wash towel and get down to being clean, not just soaking in agony.

The final S is a shave. I haven't had one since probably Wednesday or Thursday of last week. I was getting pretty scruffy. Usually I don't make it that long between shaves, my skin just starts itching too much, and I just have to get rid of the fuzz. But with other pains keeping my attention, I guess the hair on my face just didn't really bother me.
So we have the Shit, Shower, and Shave all taken care of today. Afterward, I did go back to just relaxing and recovering, but at least I felt like more of a human. That's progress.
I've even threatened to sit down and try to work through some of my work emails tomorrow if I feel better. Dunno if I'll make that stand up or not, depends on how things are feeling 12 hours from now.
