The people generating the content and data that drive the web are rarely compensated for the value
they create. Of the major social media platforms, only YouTube offers revenue sharing: 55% of
advertising revenue goes to qualified uploaders (many of the largest of which are major companies in
their own right) and 45% goes to YouTube.
YouTube, however, is becoming stricter about the type of content that can be monetized on its
