We have almost finished the distribution of free ONECENT tokens to MAPX stakeholders. This post is directed mainly at those new ONECENT token-holders who are not entirely sure what they have in their wallet!
Firstly, some data: we have started receiving rewards within the @onecent account and, by a stroke of mathematical genius (or luck, however you wish to see it) the updated average value per token is exactly the same as it was before - 8.7 cents. Now, we can finally start to see this number rise. I shall also be back home tomorrow so can look at my strategy to maximise profits. Also note that all rewards from this post will be sent to @onecent.
Now, here's some basic advice on the ONECENT game. Possible things to do with your free 5 ONECENT tokens:
Sell them!
Well, they were free, so cashing them in is a fairly obvious strategy. Notice that the current prices being offered to buy the tokens off you are about the same as the average value per token - about 8 cents. You could, of course, add your own sale price nearer to the top end of about 14 cents... and wait.
Waiting plays a large part in this game. As the value per token moves upwards, do you sell, do you buy more, do you hold on till the end? Just to say that one very important strategy is to stock up on tokens so that your average price paid is less than the token value. This brings us to the next strategy.
Double Up and Hold
As the tokens were free, your average cost at the moment is zero! So, if you were to buy 5 more ONECENT tokens at, say, 14 cents each, then your average for 10 tokens would be 7.5 cents; still below the asset-based value and hence you could see your profits rise further in the future.
Hang on till the end!
The game will not last forever; it is designed to last a maximum of 200 days, or less if players stop trading. At the end, all assets will be powered down or unstaked or just sold off and the funds used to pay everyone off. The end. Most players should end up happy - but some more than others.
Keep up with posts
Although not in itself a playing strategy, the posts will hopefully help players understand the game better and hence develop their own timing methods to fit their aims. I cannot tell everyone what to do otherwise everyone will do the same thing - and we know what happens when everyone does the same thing at the same time! Just look at urban traffic on every Friday evening.
The final hope is that, as this is a fairly low-stakes game within a trading platform, learning to handle the dynamics of the game will help you better understand what to do with all your other tokens.
Hopefully Steem Engine will soon have graphs of historical prices. Then you might notice that ONECENT doesn't just sit there gathering digital dust - it tends to oscillate. This behaviour has some similarities with trading bonds as their price is very sensitive to interest rates.
Just holding is not always the best strategy.
