i’ve made it be known on a number of occasions that a set of electric bikes are in both myself and @dayleeo future — perfect to go in the van, secured away, charging from solar (we gotta work that bit out) so that when we get to a destination we can go into the town, leave the van secured and hidden away and just go and chill, have our gopro or action cameras on the bikes and we ready to go, especially with the range on them i’m sure we can carry supplies back as well.
i’m a little miffed that they are restricting the power on the european models but i think that’s really out of their hands because it comes under the EU laws about electric powered bikes, they are smart to put the pedals on because that changes the classification. i could always buy those parts or even find the EU modders that put the more powerful units on anyway if we felt they were underpowered later on, these certainly will come in handle in mountain/snowy areas as well as on the beach, quite expensive i guess for what they are but also at the same time not and i can see that once we have a pair it’s gonna be a customising job on both of them anyway, i can certainly see us getting the frames dipped to keep them rust free for the next say five to ten years — not that the batteries or the hub motors will last that long but if we can get our investment back on them, all the better.
i’m thinking that i’m gonna have to factor in some kind of inverter to charge these bikes, i need to do a bit of research on the amp draw and the time per bike that they need to recharge but i’m pretty certain we can either find a way to split charge them through an inverter system or just have some onboard already slow charged Goal Zero Yeti 1000 Lithium Portable Power Station | | Goal Zero units as part of the configuration — of course the more gear and kit we put in the van the more we have to secure it, hide the stuff away as best we can and build in as many possible ways to track the van if stolen, i’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve but they are going to need field testing as part of the trans media portal idea — i know it’s something other digital nomads that are hitting the roads and the offgrid life are going to need, could be a little business in it’s own right! :)
