I would like to recommend a creative way to hide your valuables while traveling. You can even use this at your home to keep things hidden in plain sight. Having valuables put away in a safe may not always be practical or possible, so this is kind of an alternative.
Last year, when we came to Panama to visit, we had to carry some cash with us to start our visa paperwork. We were trying to figure out a way that we could kind of hide it so it didn’t look like a lot of money in case we encountered a robbery situation (we didn’t know what type of people Panamanians were at that point). We didn’t want to hide money in a money belt or passport holder, but something that looked a little more like it should be there.
That’s when we thought about diaper wipes packages.
We bought diaper wipes from Walmart, but any wipe cases would work. They are a colored plastic bag with an opening in the top. They are perfect for sticking money in. If one squeezes the sides of a wipe pack while money is in it, it feels like wipes stacked up. They are light weight and you can’t see through the plastic. If you have a baby, it is normal to carry around wipes, but I’ve seen people without babies use them as well – as a napkin or hand wipe.

So how did we use them?
We emptied them of wipes, put the money in a plastic bag and put the money and bag inside the wipes pack. Then I put a few wipes on top of the money so that they really would look like wipes if someone grabbed them for some reason. Then we just put them in backpacks, diaper bag and purses while in the airport. It really worked well for us.

You could hide all kinds of valuables this way.
Wrap your necklaces and rings in a bag and stick them in the wipes pack. As long as there is enough fluff in them, no one will suspect a thing. The items, of course, have to be small enough to fit in.
