While traversing the Netherlands by train a few days ago, I made an impulse stop-over in Maastricht and went around to explore the city on foot, undeterred by the sweltering heat. It was well worth it.
The square in front of the railway station was under renovation, which provided a nice colourful backdrop to a constant stream of passers by. I only had my phone ready, so it had to do.
I crossed a pedestrian/cycling bridge...
and soaked in the view of the river Meuse.
!
Maastricht is a city of, among other things, thousands of bicycles and cyclists.
Not only are these colourful in themselves, but are often bedecked with plastic flowers to make them look even more lively. Guess putting real flowers on your bicycle wouldn't be all that practical.
After an hour of walking around in full sun, I felt like I have urgently to cool myself down with a few scoops of ice cream.
When even that didn't help, I gave up and sought shelter inside a nice cafe, where I parked right next to a Mercedes typewriter.
I realised time was running short and it was time to head back to the train station. I took this shot with my Fuji X100T after noticing a multilayered reflection in a window of a car on the opposite track.
