G'evening, steemit. So this is my second-ever Nomadic Nugget; which is basically a place for me to start posting my non-nature photos and stories. You know, stuff that doesn't really fit into the "Daily Nature Fix" genre. Anyway, this one is about a legit totem pole that we saw in Sitka, Alaska. I don't remember a ton about it, but I do recall it wasn't a real old one or anything. I think it was carved in the 1990's.
It was huge though. It had to be at least 40 feet tall and a few feet in diameter. I think it was a redwood tree, or cedar. I also remember the sign saying it was to honor indigenous natives who died while fighting the Russians when they were expanding into the territory. Interesting stuff though. Very cool to see one in person. There are still some ancient ones in Alaska, I believe. I may have to put that on my list of things to see.
