A part of Sitges history
All around Sitges there are little historic reminders and artefacts...these are usually accompanied by ceramic tile plates inbedded to the walls, describing the background of the artefact.
Sitges is located in the province of Barcelona in Cataluna, and most often the descriptions will be in Catalan
This is the plate that goes with the old canon situated on the church wall facing the ocean
it says loosely translated by me...
History
This is one of the six canons used in the Battle of Balvard of Sitges, that was attacked by english battleships on the 27th of April 1797, they wanted to embark and create stations on the beaches. After 4 hours of defence from the canons, the english retreated, defeated without reaching their objective !
Another plate describes the legend of the Canon
Legend says that the bronze contains the sadness of the dead in the rocks of the bastion that it was in the Balvarte battle of the past.
It faces the sea and guards Sitges and its rigid material and moral is the foundation on which the city was recreated.
Centuries ago it is said that a lady by the name Tecla (a Sitges native beauty) , shot the canon against a brutal pirate,in the defense of the honour of her sisters to help her the bells returned from the firm bastion of the bell tower...
Please bare in mind this is loosely translated, by me in the moment, I may be mistaken and if so please correct me in the comments and I will edit my translation.
Have a great day and keep on steemin' spreading the good vibes !
