The hardest part about quitting a job and traveling is actually the return. When you let people know of your decision, you will realize there are two kinds of people. The people who fully support your decision and people who think it was a very dumb decision. My boss is one of second type. :))
Quitting a job is not a smart decision actually
When I told my boss that I would travel and I needed to quit job to prepare for it. He did not say anything but all I saw in his face was “helpless”, like he totally gave up telling me.
My boss is a good mentor, full of skills, especially in term of making contract. When he offered me to be his assistant, I was expected to be someone he would teach all skills and replace him to deal with contract in law firm. He believed in me that I would be the best one, always be strict with me but after that encourage me. He spent 5 months to train me. I have just learned something, have just had enough experience to handle it myself. Then I decided to quit due to the urge of South America Trip. He asked me “So how long will you be there?” “Two months”. He stopped wanting to invest in me.
Worries about the return
I admit that I felt a bit worry about “the return”. I will start again in my field or I will interest in another area? Is it too late to start one more time?
But I strongly believe that I will come back as a different person. I will not take my problems to another place and keep being stuck. I know it is not about where I am, but who I am and what choices I make.
It will be hard I know, but I can also discover how good I can handle difficult situations. I will learn to surprise myself, get more confidence in problem solving and meeting people. I know it is an experience of a lifetime that I will never want to miss, then I do it with all of my bravery and hope.
