Ready to discover Amsterdam together! Let’s look into today’s fun attraction to do to in the city.
Hi welcome back everybody, like many of you know I have several series within my blog, one of them is called “ hidden gems” for today’s hidden gem I will show you the Amsterdam Zoo.
Okay maybe some of my picks within this concept are not really hidden but I just want to make sure you know what to visit when you visit the beautiful city of Amsterdam.
Artis
The Zoo in Amsterdam is called Artis and has a very rich history. The Zoo was founded in 1838 by three gentlemen with the goal to improve and promote the knowledge of nature and animals.
Artis became the second Zoo in the world that was opened up for the public just after the London Zoo.
When the Zoo first opened it was not really special, they had a few parrots, monkeys and a forest cat but the Zoo grew ever since, when the Zoo celebrated its first year anniversary they were able to take over many animals of Sir van Aken. He provided an elephant , lions, bears, zebras, kangaroos and snakes.
As mentioned the Zoo grew ever since it opened at the unique part is that the Zoo is located right Downtown in the city and if you bike past you can see Flamingos and Elephants for free!
By now Artis is an household name and in my opinion one of the nicest Zoos I have ever been.
And I am happy this big part of history survived the bombing of the second world war and it a very nice activity to do in the city of Amsterdam.
Just see for yourself;
“The City in the background, right downtown!”
“My wingspan”
“told you the Zoo is old”
“they swim so fast!”
“the even copied an Amsterdam Canal to show what’s in there”
Hope you like this tour of the Zoo in this pick of the Hidden Gems of Amsterdam! So to everybody the weather is getting better so it’s time to book your flights and enjoy my lovely hometown city.
Will post some more hidden gems soon to add to your to do list once you are here!
Thanks for stopping by everybody!
