The life of a vegeterian in Tokyo

Have you ever been vegetarian?

Here are some simple vegie-friendly dishes that I discovered while I was in Japan.

Certainly Japanese cuisine does not lend itself to many vegetarian dishes, we all have in mind the very famous sushi, and how to blame them being an island they base most of their cuisine on the catch.

Armed with calm and my Japanese friend Hitomi I started looking for dishes to eat for people like me who do not love meat or fish.

THE 5 VEGETARIAN PLATES TO BE SERVED IF YOU GO TO JAPAN.

Miso soup
Miso is derived from soybeans (Hacho miso), which are often added to other cereals such as barley (Mugi Miso) or rice (Kome Miso), but also rye, buckwheat or millet. Miso soup is an integral part of the Japanese diet.
Norimaki (Sushi Roll)
Rice with vinegar rolled in sea lettuce. Other ingredients are rolled up inside, such as cucumber (Kappa Maki), pumpkin (Kanpyo Maki), marinated vegetables (Oshinko), fermented soy (Natto Maki). Be careful because Norimaki are not always vegetarian: for example, Tekka Maki is tuna!

Matsutake Gohan
Boiled rice with matsutake mushrooms. Matsutake mushrooms are very expensive mushrooms in Japan.

4.Soba
Soba is dark noodles made of buckwheat flour. They can be eaten both cold, after being soaked in flavored soy sauce, or hot in a seaweed broth.

5.Okonomiyaki
A thin focaccia of sweet fried batter made of various ingredients. Okonomiyaki has many combinations of ingredients, so when you order it at the restaurant, remember to ask the waiter that it does not contain meat or fish.
