Three tune Tuesday is always so much fun to hear all the songs from different genres. Thanks to @ablaze for sponsoring the weekly event! I wasn't all that sure if I was going to participate this time around because until this morning I really didn't have any thoughts or themes that really stood out in my mind. Then I saw a news story about the band Queen releasing a new greatest hits compilation. I suppose one can never have too many of these from the band's point of view, the more they're able to sell and more money to make. But this time they are leaving out one of their biggest hits "Fat Bottomed Girls", becoming a victim of the WOKE movement. I hate to see this... just because you don't like the past doesn't give you the right to try to edit it. It just makes me sick to hear these kinds of things...
So today I thought I might share three tunes that definitely are not going to be liked by the cancel culture/ edit the past movement. All three great songs that deserve to be remembered using the theme of "girls" in honor of "Fat Bottomed Girls". First we start off with Queen fronted by Freddie Mercury whose untimely death in 1991 from HIV was a shock to most everyone. Queen are an English band that produced a string of hits throughout the eighties, and I'm sure to most of you they need no introduction. Here's "Fat Bottomed Girls":
Now my second choice came to mind pretty quickly as I thought what hit songs from the past would be considered "offensive" by the cancel culture/ past editors of today. Motley Crue were the bad boys of rock in the 1980's. When they were on tour their lifestyle pretty much consisted of performing a show, straight to the airport to fly to the next city while enjoying their drug of choice in route. Then straight to a strip club for the rest of the night for one long party. Sleep all day, then onto the stage again in the evening and repeat. It's no wonder they wrote a song about strip clubs. Here's "Girls Girls Girls":
For the last choice it was tough, just so many choices... Then I saw @geneeverett do a post on the Beastie Boys and it all became clear. The Beastie Boys were a hip hop/rap/ rock band with a string of hits since the mid 1980's. In 2012 band member Adam Yauch sadly died of cancer and the band disbanded. One of their hits was a song called "Girls", it a really fun song to listen to and you've probably heard it before. Here's "Girls":
I hope you enjoyed my trio of songs today, all great songs at the time they were written (and still are today in my opinion.) The world today has definitely changed but you shouldn't try to cancel/ change the past. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it... Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for taking the time to stop by and listen.
