An article in my news feed recently caught my eye. It was a Politico piece about UFOs, which struck me as odd because I didn't know Politico covered this topic. The article itself was all about a new paper authored by "Sean Kirkpatrick, head of the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, and Harvard professor Avi Loeb." Kirkpatrick is a total spook with a lifetime of experience at the intersection of intelligence and defense, while Loeb is a respected academic most famous for theorizing that space aliens have visited Earth.
Here's an excerpt from the paper:
The coincidences between some orbital parameters of Oumuamua and IM2 inspires us to consider the possibility that an artificial interstellar object could potentially be a parent craft that releases many small probes during its close passage to Earth, an operational construct not too dissimilar from NASA missions. These "dandelion seeds" could be separated from the parent craft by the tidal gravitational force of the Sun or by a maneuvering capability.... What would be the overarching purpose of the journey? In analogy with actual dandelion seeds, the probes could propagate the blueprint of their senders. As with biological seeds, the raw materials on the planet’s surface could also be used by them as nutrients for self-replication or simply scientific exploration. It is important to note, that given the time scales associated with the propulsion scheme discussed here, it is unreasonable to assert that the intention of any such probe launched in the far distant past, has anything to do with the human species. More likely, and similar to NASA’s missions – the goal would be scientific and exploratory in nature.
The basic idea is that unmanned probes are being launched from a mothership in deep space. These probes then come to our planet to investigate it. The purpose of these probes could be to pave the way for colonization, though it's also possible that they're just collecting data. Although it sounds fantastical, this theory is apparently supported by observations of objects floating through space.
Scare Tactics
While UFOs have been given more attention in the news in the last couple of years, they mostly seem to be described on a continuum that ranges from neutral to threatening. By suggesting that UFOs might be colonizing our world like dandelion seeds colonize new territory, this latest news appears to fall into the threatening category. Do the powers that be really view UFOs as a threat? One thing that might shed light on this are statements made by Dr. Carol Rosin to Steven Greer in 2000. Rosin worked with Wernher Von Braun and was his spokesperson for many years. Here's an excerpt:
The strategy that Wernher Von Braun taught me was that first the Russians are going to be considered to be the enemy. In fact, in 1974, they were the enemy, the identified enemy. ... Then terrorists would be identified, and that was soon to follow. We heard a lot about terrorism. Then we were going to identify third-world country "crazies." We now call them Nations of Concern. But he said that would be the third enemy against whom we would build space-based weapons. The next enemy was asteroids. ... And the funniest one of all was what he called aliens, extraterrestrials. That would be the final scare. ... Wernher Von Braun never spoke to me about any of the details that he knew related to extraterrestrials except that one day extraterrestrials were going to be identified as an enemy against whom we are going to build an enormous space-based weapons system. Wernher Von Braun actually told me that the spin was a lie - that the premise for space-based weaponry, the reasons that were going to be given, the enemies that we were going to identify - were all based on a lie.
If anyone has an insider's perspective on the subject, it's Dr. Carol Rosin. And she made it clear that there was no legitimate UFO threat as of the end of the millennium. So any claims of an extraterrestrial threat are probably falsehoods concocted by the military-industrial complex to justify expensive new weapons programs. During the pandemic, there was an uptick in UFO disclosure and the Pentagon began releasing UFO footage.
So far, most of the recent coverage has considered UFOs in a neutral light. But there are signs that a threat narrative could be developing. The CNN piece referenced above concludes with a fear for pilot safety voiced by Rachel Cohen, spokeswoman for Democratic Virginia Sen. Mark Warner. It's reasonable to consider the potential risk to pilots of UFOs. But now that Politico is talking about UFOs as dandelion seeds coming to Earth to take root, we may begin to hear more about alien threats.
Weapons manufacturers would benefit most from a UFO threat narrative. There are also politicians and bureaucrats who would benefit from such a narrative. If these groups were sufficiently motivated, they could theoretically manufacture convincing evidence with AI to get the public behind a war with ETs. Doubtless an expensive war.
Maybe UFOs really are dandelion seeds looking to colonize. But I feel like they're something else entirely. They've been with us for decades or longer. A trustworthy source saw a saucer up close in the '90s, and she's just one of countless others who've seen such things over the years. Overall, I think it's a good thing that people in the mainstream are beginning to talk about the phenomenon. If we can get past the fear-mongering, maybe we can learn something from that conversation.
