San is better now, his asthma is under control, he's still coughing a lot but he feels good. As it is Saturday, we didn't want to stay at home. Mum, however, is drained out and needed some time for herself, so after lunch, I took San to Woy Woy for magnet fishing.
Magnet fishing is just attaching a strong Neodymium Rare Earth Magnet to a rope, throwing it into a body of water, bring it back slowly and catching all sort of object made of iron: knives, forks, fishing tackle, you name it...
I've discovered this on Youtube a while ago, but it's just recently that I thought I'd give it a try and bought one magnet from eBay.
The magnet is rated 68 kg and I attached it to a 140 kg paracord of 20 meters. You throw it out, wait till the magnet hit the bottom and bring it back slowly as to not pull it off the bottom. We spent about an hour here and there and only got some pieces of shapeless iron back from the water. They went to the bin. Nothing special today.
I once was fishing at The Entrance and there was that couple with a huge magnet that is about 5 or 6 times bigger than the one I had. They managed to pull a shopping trolley out of the water. It's great, not only you can be lucky and retrieve some useful object that can still be used but at the same time, you are cleaning the water.
After the magnet fun, San and I went to the Fishermen Wharf, a local waterfront restaurant, for some fish and chips. But lets take a selfie with the Pelican first!
4 pm, it's time to head home! Daddy need to play with some horse poop before night time 🤣🤣🤣 no kidding!
But before that, I needed to harvest the mustard greens! They are already big and if I wait for too long they would start wilting.
The mustard greens are now in the kitchen. I needed to empty three huge bags of horse nuggets. Two bags went into the compost tumbler and the last one was spread into three parts:
- one part went to the CFT worm bin
- one part went to the worm breeding wooden crate
- the last part will be used to attract, catch and breed native worms from the garden
This is just an active tray from an unused commercial worm bin, the bottom has many holes in it. I filled it over a half and closed the lid. The tray will sit on top of the garden soil just like that.
In about a week or two, there should be some worms coming inside and in about two to three months it should be plenty of worms and cocoons.
I could then harvest those worms to:
- sell them to some local customers
- start a new worm bin
- transfer the worms to a new pot, garden bed or grow bag
I could also leave the bin just like that until the worms have eaten all the horse manure and spread the compost in the garden for me. This is the ultimate easy way to compost food waste and feed your garden. You don't even need to harvest the compost, the worms will feed the plants for you. - To login for creating content and curating, use your Private Posting Key
- To make transfers and account operations, use your Private Active Key
- To encrypt and decrypt memos, use your Private Memo Key
