I believe many are familiar with public mutual as they are currently the biggest mutual fund company in malaysia. They are big because they are one of the pioneers and had many agents. The problem Public mutual is that they need to pay commision to their agent thus they need to charge a sales charge of around 3-5% when you purchase their unit trust.
Then the market evolves and DIY online unit trust platform started in Malaysia, there are two popular online unit trust platform in malaysia : fundsupermart (FSM) and e-unittrust . I’ll focus on Fundsupermart (M) which is a subsidiary Singaporean listed iFastcapital with operations in Singapore, Hong Kong and India. I have invested in the platform since 2012 and have pretty good experience with them so far.
Both FSM and Eunittrust allows deposit and withdrawal via online banking and also EPF investment. For EPF investment, you will need to submit the EPF form with the thumb print stamping to them via post.
Both platform capped the sales charge to below 2% as compared to public mutuals 5% .FSM sales charge is 1.75% for equity funds and 0% for bond funds. Both platform offered many type of funds from local funds, to asia pac and even country specific funds like US equity. The choice of funds on both are almost the same.
Fundsupermart has a very good webpage design and interface. It shows your portfolio including the profit and loss nicely. It even has a graphing and comparison page where you can plot the performance of the funds against a benchmark or other funds. Their UI is very much better than public mutual website.

Both funds have regular promo and events. Fundsupermart has an annual event in the beginning of the year called "what and where to invest" and in the mid of the year they will have another event to promote their "recommended fund list" . Usually during all this events there will be special discount for funds , sometimes they even drop the sales charge from 1.75% to 0%
