We believe it is. We have started keeping bees in 2013, one year after we started building Misty Mountain Conservation Center. We built fist five hives which were colonized by bees in the following months. Now, we regularly harvest from 10 to 20 kg every year from each hive.

Tropical rainforests are depending on bees. Which simply means, more forest, more bees, more honey and also more money. It is going to be certainly impossible to save the forest without gaining direct profit from it. We were first thinking to use ecotourism as the tool to gain immediate profit for the local farmers but with the current situation, it became too risky to bring tourist to the area. That is why we started focusing on beekeeping more. During past years we have built and installed over 100 hives. We trained and equipped 20 local farmers to become beekeepers as well.

To make sure our conservation effort will be never disturbed we just started currently building another 200 hives. Our target is 1000. We rent 1000 hectares of the abandoned mountain land with remaining patches of misty mountain forest from the community for 15 years to prove them it can be more profitable to save the forest than to destroy it.
