We all know about the upcoming new landing page for Utopian.io and probably with lots of new exciting features. I was gathering few questions and possible answers about Utopian, those are asked by many users around the steem community.Then I saw a frequently asked question(FAQ) on top navigation menu of the new design. So I thought it will be helpful for the utopian team if I compile those questions as frequently asked questions.
Here I have been able to gather following questions and tried to give possible answers as much as I could.And submitting it On @Utopian-io as documentation contribution.
1. What is Utopian.io?
Utopian.io is the platform based on steem and listed on steem ecosystem. Utopian.io is the only platform till now that rewards open source project contributors via Steem.
It is open source project that uses steems rewarding system, to reward the contributors based on their contribution.
2. Who can use Utopian.io?
Anyone, Yes anyone who often contributes to open source projects or want to contribute open source projects can use utopian. Developers and project owners are also using Utopian to get help on the developement of their project.
3. Is utopian free?
Yes, it's completely free and an Open source project itself. Anyone with a steem account can use utopian platform and start contributing.
4. How Do I Use Utopian-io?
In utopian people post Contribution post regarding their contribution to the project, explaining how their contributions helped/will help on the overall project growth.
5. Well, then what is Open Source project?
Open Source projects are those projects whose codebase is visible or hosted publicly. Most of the open source developers, use Git platform to host their projects and utopian-io allows full integration with github. Every contribution
post you make on utopian will be posted in the respective repository on Github.
6. I don’t use Github, Can still contribute on Utopian?
Yes, you can. But always remember that any contribution you post will be posted as a contributional report on github.
7. I am not a programmer? Can I still use Utopian.io?
Yes, and in fact, we encourage non-programmer like you to be dropping ideas, feature request or any problems you are facing while using an open source project. And that’s the reason why we are becoming popular every day.
We have different categories of contribution, only code category needs a coding contribution. We have thousands of non-code contributions getting very good rewards. Your ideas are more valuable for any open source project’s growth.
8. How can I get paid actually? Where does the money come from?
Utopian works on steem blockchain. Hence it pays via steem, an existing rewarding system of steem blockchain. When you post any contributions, if anybody on the platform likes it you will get upvotes,
Every contribution you make on utopian platform becomes steem content. Means anything you post on utopian will be automatically posted on your steem blokchain, it doesn’t matter whether or not it’s approved on utopian, hence post wisely.
9. How can I Sign Up with Utopian.io?
Utopian needs a steem account. Your steem account is also your Utopian account. We use steemconnect v2 for secure log-in. We will never store any private information. You can get your steem account here.
10. What is steemit?
Steemit is a social media platform where everyone gets paid for creating and curating content. It leverages a robust digital points system, called Steem, that supports real value for digital rewards through market price discovery and liquidity.
11. Can I just post some improvement suggestions for random Open source project?
Yes, and you are most welcome. Utopian is an Open platform for any open source projects. You will be rewarded for your valuable contribution to any open source project that exists.
12. I got an error while posting my contribution.What should I do now?
Please check your steemit blog after posting here.If your post is already there then you do not have to worry, we will manually add your contribution on utopian for review. If it's okay for moderator then your post will be approved anyway.
13. How many contributions can I post?
We don't have any limit. You can post as many contributions as you like until they are valuable and worthwhile for the project development.
14. How long does it take to get my contribution approved?
Your contribution will be approved as soon as a moderator review it. It won’t be approved if it doesn’t follow the rules/guidelines. However, a moderator can ask to edit/remove part of the post to meet the guidelines and will be approved if you could do that.
15. How much time does it take for utopian-io bot to come and vote my contribution?
We cannot say that. It will be coming to you anytime before the post-payout date only if your contribution worth it. It depends on various factors like type and quality of contribution, the total number of upvotes/downvotes on your contribution.So always focus on posting worthy and quality contribution with all the details and explanations about the subject. You won’t go unnoticed!!
And remember we don't encourage you to post a contribution just in seek of upvote from the bot. You will be wasting your time here.
16. What are the benefits of using Utopian.io?
There are many benefits of using Utopian for project owner as well as contributors.
Project owners can post an announcement regarding the development of their project.This way they can outsource their open source project from thousands of potential developers around the world and get their project done.
Contributors can contribute any open source projects and get rewarded by project owners,utopian-io bot as well as thousands of other users on the platform who likes your contributions.
