Description
GNS3 or Graphical Network Simulator is a simulator used for virtual network designs, This software is an open source software and supports cisco routers and switches by using an emulator known as dynamips. In this Video tutorial I will show you how we can upload the images of cisco routers and how we can start the configuration of these routers with the help of the command line. If you are not able to find the Cisco IOS images here is a Source.
After we are able to design the network we can move ahead and start the configuration of the routers. Networking as we know consists of two important parts Routing and Switching but before we could directly go to routing and switching, we need to learn some basic configuration of the router which includes change in hostname, password enabling for router or line, use of privilege and configuration modes.
Privilege Mode
When we open the command line of the router we are in the privilege mode, this mode is used to save the changes made to the the existing configuration of the router, this mode is used to show the existing configuration of the router. We can also delete the configuration in this mode.
the commands which I have used in this mode are given below.
wr This command is used in the configuration, after any change is made to the configuration.
show run This command is used to show the configuration of the router at any time, this also helps us to know if the changes are made effectively.
erase startup This command is used to delete the configuration of the router. This is not shown in the video. We just have to write a command erase startup for erasing the configuration.
config t This is the command that allows us to get inisde the configuration mode and start configuration.
Configuration Mode
Configuration Mode is the mode where we can start the configuration of the router. it is in this mode that we can make changes to the configuration such as name change, password, addressing etc. The commands which I have used in this video for the configuration mode are given below.
hostname apex this is the command used to change the name of the router or the host. In this command apex is the name chosen and can be any name as desired by the user.
line console 0 The Command used to get inside the line console interface to configure the console line.
password apple Command used to set password for the console line where apple is the password chosen by the user.
login For setting password at the login this command is used.
exit Command used to go back to privilege mode.
enable password apple Command used to set-up password for router.
do wr Command used save the configuration in the configuration mode.

Curriculum
This is my first tutorial for GNS3 series. I will like to continue with more video tutorials which will teach how we can do IP addressing, Subnetting, Routing and Switching.
