Established in 1990, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is a national early warning system to detect possible safety problems in U.S.-licensed vaccines. VAERS is co-managed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination. Anyone can report an adverse event to VAERS. Healthcare professionals are required to report certain adverse events and vaccine manufacturers are required to report all adverse events that come to their attention.
The VAERS reporting system relies on individuals to send in reports of their concerns to the CDC and FDA. Because of that, one can only assume that this of adverse events and/or injuries list is far from complete. Also this system is used in detecting patterns of adverse events that might indicate a possible "problem" with a vaccine. The site is easily navigated and is open for data analysis, providing data from 1990 to the present 2017.

Looking back at the history of vaccines it is plain to see the opportunities for growth created by the pharmaceutical companies. One must also be aware that the U.S. government has provided the pharmaceutical companies protection under the law prohibiting lawsuits against drug manufacturers. I beg to question, why is that necessary and is any other industry afforded that courtesy?

The government has a system in place, a system whereas persons injured by vaccines can file a claim with the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, although actually receiving compensation is almost more difficult than winning the lottery. The monies paid out to the injured parties are paid out with money collected by the taxpayers as summarized in the Vaccine Injury Compensation Reports. The numbers are staggering and almost require a CPA to decipher the actual cost to the taxpayer. Meanwhile the pharmaceutical companies are pulling in astronomical profits.
I close with two questions:
- Isn't it about time that the government has the back of their citizens instead of the pharmaceutical industry?
