My mother passed away several weeks ago. I inherited her Crystal glasswear and her China place settings. These ‘valuables’ have minimal value in modern society. They were purchased during the 1950’s. Times have changed.
In the 50’s, a family could live comfortably on a single income. My parents both had good jobs, so they could afford crystal and China. Life was good.
It was the materialistic mindset of the 50’s that gave birth to the social revolution of the 60’s. There was no longer a social desire to dress for dinner. A picnic in the park became nicer than a formal banquet.
I inherited the tools for hosting an old time banquet. Mostly worthless.
I see the large houses and cars of today as being the mostly worthless assets that future generations will inherit. They will have historical value being token reminders of past prosperity.
Here is today’s beauty.
