Vendée Globe is the legendary solo sailing race around the world without assistance, and (are you ready?) it starts tomorrow. Departure (and arrival, for those who will succeed in the challenge) at Les Sables-d'Olonne in France. An epic path that tests the physical and the mental strength of the 40 super sailors who will be navigating through oceans and extreme conditions for about 3 months without stopping.
This time, I’ve decided to experience the Vendée Globe in a personal way: I’m going to be part of it, too, obviously in a virtual way, through the official Virtual Regatta app (you can find it on Google play store), which lets anyone participate in a realistic simulation of the Vendée Globe’s route. There are already over 200,000 participants registered on the platform, an impressive number that reflects just how captivating and popular this event is for sailing lovers, even beyond the professional sailing world.
Taking part in the Virtual Regatta is a unique way to follow the race actively, getting a tangible sense of what it’s like to make tough decisions on the open sea. There might not be real sunrises or waves to face, but the excitement of feeling connected to such an extraordinary challenge is very real. It’ll be fascinating to join thousands of other enthusiasts from all over the world, all competing against each other and, in a way, sailing alongside the real skippers facing this ultimate test. ⛵
