Having a talk with a friend I realize the different points of view we have two people having had contact with the same content, and although this is normal since we all have different preferences this becomes more evident in my favorite medium what is the videogame, is not only that this media depends entirely on the player to be able to advance, i am talking about that they are unique experiences, they will never be repeated even if you play them again.
You will see when I talk about this I do not mean that the video game transcends something or approaches a new distinctive medium, but unlike the other audiovisual media it is entirely interactive, maybe this is the scene of a film that someone arrives at and always get excited, but it does not go beyond the emotion of the moment caught in the sequence of the footage, whereas in a videogame it is always changing, to give an example the first time that Metal Gear Solid 3 I was 13 years old, was a beginner in English (and that in that game there are texts and dialogs everywhere), I was not so familiar with the system (I barely had a couple of Ps2 games at the time) and was against the time as I had to return the game in As I finished it and the exams came, at that moment I skipped dialogues, I lost several objectives and I was almost not sure what the hell I had to do while I was going through that jungle, it was a completely threatening experience, I did not know that I had to hide or that the point of the game was to be stealthy, I managed to move forward with a lot of patience and after several deaths, reaching a boss that I could not win at that time, I had to move from him and return the game to my friend, finish with desire of more and to be able to understand a little more what he was doing since I did not understand what the hell I was doing or where he had to go. A year later I found the game in an offer and decided to buy it to finish what had called me so much attention , this time with a higher level in English, more time accustomed to the system and understanding that the games were no longer like I got to try the nintendo classics, finally I was able to finish the game, understanding its history and realizing almost everything I had missed (Although I did skip some dialogues and videos because of laziness) ending with a more complete experience , satisfactory to have finished a game that looked so threatening and with mixed feelings for its history (it was not bad or something, but it left me screwed). I returned to the third round of the game approximately 6 months later, this time reading all the dialogues, playing a higher difficulty and trying not to kill any enemy (one of the objectives of the game, they already know "stealth") until it reaches a boss who always gave too much fight, a great sniper whose map was huge and hiding among trees shooting from one corner to the other area, although the strategy to beat it was not difficult he was very fast and as it entered the exam stage I decided to leave it on pause for two weeks, when I returned I finally realized that that boss had died (it turns out that if you saved at that point and waited a week for him to die of old age), I finished the game again with a more complete experience, again I left with mixed feelings and with a feeling of emptiness having left that soldier dying without giving him the opportunity to carry out his last mission.
At this point they must have seen what I was referring to, they are three times the same game, the disc did not change, the dialogue and the story were the same, the graphics and the gameplay were maintained but what change? Why do I leave so many different experiences the three times I perform the same actions? Easy, the game will have a story, scripts and predetermined paths, but I was the one that changed, my change makes my experience in the game completely change one defines the experience and even though the game proposes an idea of one depends on how it is develop and if it were to conclude, in other media the characters already exist and already perform their actions at the time and one can not interfere but here one decides and performs the actions most of the time, you want to be stealthy or kill all enemies in the place, whether you want to run from the enemy and dodge or attack in front and be brave until the last moment is a decision of the player and is different in each game you have, the games may only have (mostly) a final but the possibilities are endless and that makes this medium special to which I have so much affection.
