The Northern Loop is my blog series about a short motorbike trip in North Vietnam, starting and ending in Ha Giang.
Northern Loop Part 5 - Bao Lac to Cao Bang

Our fourth day of riding wasn't our best. We were both hungover from drinking too many shots on day 3 (though this is part 5 of my blog series, this is day 4 of riding). We didn't let that slow us down too much though.
The riding itself was okay, but the hazy weather wasn't very good for photography. We sort of rushed our way through our fourth day of riding. All I could think about was finding a nice bed to spend some time in. Here are some of the photos.
We saw lots of farms on this day's ride.
People working their fields.
Some of the terraces look so small, it hardly seems worth the effort of farming them.
Hungover or not, the riding was hard not to love.
This is where we stopped to record part of the vlog.
We saw lots and lots of terraces.
Lunch break!
We stopped for lunch at a small restaurant. We wanted Pho, but when we tried to order our food these guys invited us to their table. They kept filling our bowls with different kinds of food and meat. The food was excellent, and the guys were pretty funny. We had a great time with them. Of course, they tried to pour us shots every few minutes. We kept saying "no no no, we have to drive the motorbikes!". But they kept pouring. We ended up getting out of there having only taken a few shots.
On a different note, I never realized how hard it was to convey the idea of hangovers to people. I kept trying to explain that we were still hurting from drinking on the day before, but all I got back were confused looks.
Back on the road!
A nice little section of road.

We got to Cao Bang in the early afternoon. I spent some time sitting in bed and looking at my phone while @doctorcrypto went out to explore. I was still feeling pretty lethargic.
We went out for dinner and found a place that had BBQ banh mi.

They even BBQ'd the bread. They put oil or butter on the bread (the paintbrush at the bottom of the image) which made it extra crispy. The flavor was awesome and they had some great homemade hot sauce.
After dinner, we went back to the hotel and went to sleep early.

Vlog
Here's the vlog for the day.

Our route.

That about does it for this post. Stay tuned for the next post where we'll be riding to Ba Be Lake. Until then, ride safe!
