Does the voice of a man give him a romantic attitude? It turns out that yes. A new study found that when someone is attracted to another person, he lowers the timbre of his voice. This discovery applies to both women and men. Dr. Susan Hughes, the lead author of the study, explains:
"The results of our tests show that both sexes use low voice and show a high degree of mental arousal when talking more appealing than a normal person." For the purpose of the study, Hughes' team asked 48 people to leave a pre-written voice message while watching the picture of a fictional man. When they were shown the photo of a more attractive person, people switched to a lower timbre when leaving the message.
Prior to the survey, scientists were expecting only men to lower their voice and women to raise it, but the last expectation was not justified. Dr. Hughes explains:
"There seems to be a widespread stereotype in Western culture, according to which the female voice, which is excited and with a lower timbre, is considered a sexy female voice. This suggests that motivation to express a sexy female voice may conflict with the motivation to sound more feminine. " It is possible, however, that the ladies have learned to lower their voice: "When a woman naturally lowers her voice, this can be seen as an attempt to sound more attractive or seductive, and thus to signal her romantic interest."
It is also curious that the voice drop was large enough to be captured by the interlocutor.
