Hello Hivers! 👋 Have you ever tried volunteering for an organization or a cause to help others? Well, I did—and it was a meaningful experience.
I volunteered for half a day in a construction project. There was an organization that needed help because their fence was destroyed by a raging flood caused by a strong typhoon. So I offered my time to help.
I arrived at the site at 9 AM. I signed in, got my boots, gloves, eyewear, vest, helmet, and shovel. The project had already been going on for over a month, and I try to volunteer at least once a week.
Our current task was to remove thick mud and soil and dump it outside the rice fields. We also had to dig deeper to prepare the foundation for a new fence.
It was quite challenging. The area was muddy, and it was hard to move around.
Shoveling the sticky mud was tough, and passing buckets full of it was no easy task either.
The work wasn’t easy for many of the volunteers, especially since most of us weren’t used to this kind of labor. But despite the physical exhaustion, there’s a unique joy that comes with volunteering.
You get to meet new people and form unexpected friendships. You also discover new skills you never thought you had. Volunteering relieves stress and helps you develop values like sacrifice, patience, and resilience.
I was also amazed to see that some of the volunteers were women—truly admirable! Their strength and determination were inspiring. This project might still take a while to finish, but because everyone is happy to help and motivated, I know it will be completed in due time.
Volunteering may be tiring, but the rewards—personal growth, joy, and the impact you make—are truly priceless. So if you ever get the chance to volunteer, I highly encourage you to give it a try. You won’t regret it.
Thank you for patiently reading.
Until next time,
Jeff
