I do like open standards so we don't have to depend on certain services and software to keep going. I saw Evan Prodromou (founder of identi.ca and pump.io) post on G+ about some new W3C standards for activity streams. I'm assuming you could have software that could take these from different services and combine them to give you an overall view. It could probably bring together various feeds for a given person across those services. We had something like this with Friendfeed that Facebook took over and killed.
I expect it wouldn't be too hard to implement the Activity Streams for Steemit data as it's all available.
