Blue Orange Games BOG03600 Kingdomino Award Winning Family Strategy Board Game
By: Games Explained
Kingdomino is an engaging kingdom-building game involving strategic placement of dominoes. Ideal for 2-4 players, Kingdomino offers quick 15 minute play times where players, acting as Lords, vie to claim and amass lands in order to expand their kingdoms. The game pieces include 48 dominoes, each featuring two squares of land, which players take turns to place into their kingdom, bounded by a 5x5 grid. The goal is to connect squares with similar landscapes and earn points corresponding to the number of crowns within. Strategic decision-making is essential as dominos with higher set numbers carry more value, but could result in a last pick in the subsequent round.
The game commences with each player taking a starting tile and king pieces, placing the castle on the starting tile. In a thrilling twist on the traditional domino game, landscapes connect non-diagonally, and if a domino cannot be played legally, it must be discarded. However, the starting tile need not be the center of the kingdom. Scoring is based on properties or groups of connected landscapes, where each property's worth is the product of its square and crown numbers. Winning the game requires accruing the highest points, with ties broken by property size, crown counts, and potentially a shared victory. Kingdomino also offers alternate rule sets for an extra challenge.
