Is SSL still that important in 2025?

I’ve been going through some older personal and client websites lately, trying to clean things up and update outdated stuff. One thing I keep running into is the whole SSL/HTTPS situation. I remember when it first became a big deal and everyone rushed to get certificates to avoid browser warnings, SEO penalties, etc. But now I’m wondering—how essential is it really in 2025?

If you’re running something like a basic portfolio site, a small blog, or a static landing page with no login or payment functionality, is it still worth setting up SSL? Or is it just one of those things we do now out of habit?

Also curious if anyone’s found a hassle-free way to get one installed recently. Some of the providers I used in the past have gotten weirdly complicated or expensive. Would love to hear your experiences—whether you decided to skip it or found a simple setup that worked.
