There’s something magical about weekends. It’s not just the time off, it’s the freedom to unplug, to breathe, and to simply be. After five straight days of deadlines, routines, and professional demands, the weekend feels like a sacred pause. And I’ve come to realize just how essential that pause is for me.
Every weekend I allow myself to fully detach from work. No checking emails, no glancing at my to-do list. Instead, I reconnect with rest, with the things I love, and most importantly, with myself. Whether it’s lounging around doing nothing, going out for a walk, binge-watching something light, or spending time with loved ones, these simple joys carry me back to life. They pull me out of the loop of burnout and remind me why balance matters.
By Sunday evening something shifts. The fog of fatigue lifts. My mind feels clearer, my mood lighter. It’s not that all my problems are solved, but the energy to face them slowly returns. That sense of renewal is what fuels me to begin another week with purpose, not because I have to, but because I’ve chosen to refuel and reset.
In a world obsessed with productivity, taking a break almost feels rebellious. But it’s in those moments of stillness that I rediscover my strength.
As Anne Lamott once said, “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.”
And so, weekends remain my favorite part of the week, my little ritual of letting go in order to move forward.
