A bit earlier today I have decide to submit a witness application and you can vote for me as a witness if you like. I was surprised to find that there is actually not that much regarding becoming a Steem witness discussed, unlike for mining Steem for example. There are things that I even could not find described how to do at all, so I had to figure some things myself and try to confirm they are working. There is a good guide covering most of the things, but not everything you will actually need to do if you want to become a witness. This is something that you can only do from the CLI_Wallet, so you need to have a running Witness node already that is already up to date in terms of the blockchain, you need to run the cli_wallet, set a password and import your active key to get access to the user that you will have to update the witness URL for. You can do that with the update_witness command and here is an example that will update the URL for a witness account:
update_witness "WITNESSUSERNAME" "https://steemit.com/witness-category/@witnessusername/postlink" YOURPUBLICACTIVEKEY {} true
Just make sure that you replace WITNESSUSERNAME with an actual username for the witness account as well as change the https://steemit.com/link to the one that you have posted your witness application at. You will also have to change YOURPUBLICACTIVEKEY to your public active key to sign the transaction and have the change added to the Steem blockchain.
That is it, if you have made everything right you should now see the URL parameter updated from a blank value to the link you have set.
