"Perhaps it is magic, magic of the human heart , focused and made manifest by technology... It is within THAT ambiguity that my brothers and I exist. We are dreamers, shapers, singers, and makers." ~Technomage

In a way, isn't this a bit sinister? They understand technology so deeply, even basic things people take for granted like crystals and scanners, that they choose to simulate their advanced knowledge as magic rather than share it with people or explain it. The technomages intentionally frighten people away from their vicinity and "curse" you with difficult programs. They do this because they know they can, since no person is dedicated enough to try to study the technology to counteract them. Exploiting the ignorance of others keeps them safe; that's not entirely noble. They don't want to rule people like tyrants with their power, but they will suffer fools gladly for it.

Perhaps, then, it can be seen as a lesson to not over-reach or to delve too deeply into that which you only have a minimal understanding of. The Technomages may not reveal everything, but if asked the right questions while being given the respect due to them, they will guide you to that which would best suit you in a given situation.
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
