I was scrolling through twitter today and came across this post from Writing & Editing, the twitter account for Writer Stat.
It really spoke to me.
As a relatively new member of the Minnow Support Project Fiction Workshop, I have felt a ton of renewed inspiration and motivation to complete the book I am working on. But this particular statement made me think about the reaction I have been getting from my own first chapter.
After I hit a bit of a wall writing my story, I went back and rewrote my outline, in much greater detail.
Yes, that is just the outline.
I rewrote the first chapter to make it more exciting - more gripping. I wanted the reader to get pulled into the story before I did character introductions. I shared the new chapter with my fellow "Fictioneers" to an overwhelming and humbling response. I knew I was on the right track.
I have yet to fully write out the ending - I am honestly only nearing the end of Act 1. Hopefully, by the time I get to the end of the book, the final chapter will be enough to have readers want more. That's the best I can hope for, I think.
