Ever felt like you know more than the person arguing about XYZ across the room?
How about on Social Media?
I am going to tell you that arguing gives me hives.
Literally.
I will whelp up and shut down.
Almost the same response I get when I am exposed to shrimp.
I have a shrimp allergy.
I developed it later in life... not sure why, except maybe I didn't eat shrimp until my 30's.
But dang... it can just be cooking in the same room and if the steam settles on my skin, POOF!
Itchy Itchy Itchy whelps will appear.
With each occurrence, it gets worse.
I know by this response to not take it lightly and I will sometimes leave the area.
This is also a similar my response to arguing. I am not a fan of it.
Lets clarify a few things...
Arguing is Not Debating
Debating is not Arguing
Arguing is a state in which two or more people are trying to force the opposing view to believe their point of view.
Arguers will not accept the opposite point of view, hear out any explanation, or consider any facts/history/prior self knowledge presented.
Debating is a state in which two or more people offer facts, history, and prior self knowledge to a civil conversation. The opposing side will allow conversation to flow, without trashing the view of the opposite side, and will on occasion see the points made were valid and take it into consideration.
If your opposing side is there to hear your side, then you have a debate.
If your opposing side is there to prove you wrong, perhaps there will only be an argument.
In most cases, I choose to just shut up. It saves me from the shrimp hives.
