The current design of the flag was adopted in 1969 and ratified by the national assembly of Bhutan in 1972.
Meanings
The orange stands for the Buddhist traditions of the country especially the Drukpa Kagyu and Nyingma schools of Buddhism.
The Thunder Dragon is there spreading over equality over the two colors in the middle of the flag signifying the equal importance of the meanings behind the flag and evoking a sacred bond between the sovereign and the people. The white color of the Druk signifies the purity of thoughts and deeds that unite all the diverse peoples of Bhutan.
The jewels represent the wealth of the Bhutanese peoples and the dragon mouth signifies the willingness of the people to defend their lands and their commitment to the deities.

Facts
The name Buthan means The Land of the Thunder Dragon, how amazing is that? the name comes from the thunder storms that strike the region.
Bhutan was the last country in the world to adopt television and the internet, they had a ban of both these services until 1999.
The country was effectively closed off to the world until the mid seventies, when in 1974 they started allowing tourist to come in after a more liberal king ascended to the throne.
Location
Bhutan is located in the Himalayan mountain range, to the north east of India.
