Children of Sol was a story I started a few years ago and something happened to give me pause in the writing of it.

Second Part 2
Swiftly moving on...

He took a spectacular flying leap over the roots of the tree Jelly had hidden behind and as he landed, he scrabbled on the dirt of the lane to make the turn to sprint down toward the safety of the streetlights.
Paul didn’t make the safety of the streetlights. He ran as fast as his teenage legs and energy could carry him and his efforts still proved to be a day late and a dollar short.
The owner of the cold, sinister voice caught hold of Paul by both shoulders and jerked him off his feet. Paul somersaulted backward because of the momentum of his own panicked flight and the force of being jerked backwards. He landed face-down in the dirt for the second time that night.
He stood up, disoriented, and swung the flashlight in the hopes of hitting his attacker.
Both arms pinned to his sides in a tight, unbreakable embrace, he felt the cold huff of breath on his skin and a sharp pain. Bright lights flashed across his vision again. He dropped the flashlight, the bright flashes dimmed and he fell into oblivion.
“Jelly?” she heard through the mists of her dream. “Jelly, I’ve brought your flashlight back.”
“Paul?” Angelica murmured. She rubbed her eyes. Paul stood at the bottom of her bed holding the flashlight so the light shone in her face. “Put the light out. What are you doing in my bedroom?”
“You were so right, Jelly,” Paul said. He switched off the flashlight and approached the bed.
“I’m right? About what?”
“About vampires,” he said.
She didn’t have time for her brain to register flight, fright or fight. Bright flashing lights ebbed to darkness.
She woke up in the cellar where she had left Paul, earlier. She sat up and started for the doorway. She turned her head from bright, searing light, realising dawn approached.
“There’s no time to feed,” the cold voice said. “You’ll have to go to bed hungry for your first night.”
Angelica and Paul, the two newest vampires to be let loose upon the earth never made it out of the cellar again.
What came to be known as The Exsanguination overtook them before they had chance to become accustomed to vampirism. The phrase ‘dead to the world’ could have been coined with vampires in mind.
The two infant vampires slumbered, and the Exsanguination voided the vampire blood from their bodies.
No struggle or murmur of protest and no evidence to show the teens lived in recent times. Their bodies lay desiccated for a moment, perfect mummified remains, before crumbling to dust to be absorbed by the earth they lay upon.
