Hello. This is my entry for the 3-Part Weekend Freewrite - 12/11/2021, hosted by @mariannewest. This is the weekend freewrite which is 3 different prompts. Each prompt adds to the story.
The goal to the Freewrite is to take the prompts given, set a timer for 5 minutes and then write a piece of the story for each prompt. We are not able to see the next prompt without promising we have done the previous 5 minute writing.
At the end, these 3 prompts help to complete the story.
I hope you enjoy this new story~ Dara's Secret...
"I know how protective you are where my sister's is concerned," Max said. Then he looked at Albert with a scowl.
“I understand your hesitation, but the safest place for your sister is in the mountains.”
“The safest place for Dara is here, with her family.”
“That may have been true before, but you have made it impossible for her to stay here now, you know that.”
“It wasn’t my fault.”
“Maybe, but you were the one who published the book detailing your whereabouts. There are newspaper reporters snooping around town now.”
“Okay, maybe it was my fault, but Dara belongs here with us.”
“Would you rather know she is alive and well in the mountains or look over your shoulder everyday wondering if they will find her and discover her secret.”
Max sighed. He wouldn’t want his sister’s secret to be revealed, but he also loved having her here in his life. “I guess we will leave the decision to Dara. If she wants to leave then that’s it.”
"I'll text you when I leave." Dara said to Max as she headed out the door with Albert.
Max nodded, but he still didn’t agree with the plan completely.
Sure, she was going to be safe with Albert in the mountains, but for how long?
If the reporters investigated the book, asked questions around town, and did their job, it was only a matter of time before they would discover Dara’s secret.
And if they did, the life they knew in this sleepy little town would disappear.
“Mayor?”
Max looked up to see his assistant standing nervously before him.
“What is it, Wilma?” He asked.
“There’s a reporter here to speak with you. I tried to get him to come back, but he said it was important.”
“Very well, let him in”
There was no need to wait any longer. If Dara’s secret was to come to light, Max needed to retain control over the situation. He had to be sure Dara would be safe.
A full moon gave light to Dara’s secret, and even in the mountains she was not safe.
“I have pictures.” The reporter said and then slammed a stack of photographs on Max’s desk.
“I can explain this, it was a movie we were making… a hometown version of…”
“She’s a werewolf Max.”
Max looked at the reporter with anguished eyes, “There has to be some way to protect Dara. How much will it costs to bury this story?” he asked.
“I wish I could bury this story Max, but she has cost the town too many lives. She can’t control herself; you know that’s true.”
“I do know it’s true. I only hoped I could save her.”
“There’s no saving her Sir. The sheriff’s on the way to your mountain cabin now. She has to be put down.”
“I always knew this day would come.”
Added: (Max turned into a werewolf and eats the reporter :D)
