There are all kinds of checks and balances in the government to keep things in order, and make sure that crazy horrible things don’t happen. And you would think for the President to send bombs into a sovereign nation that they would need the permission of Congress to do it. BUT, it turns out that’s just actually a declaration of war. Do say, “we’re at war,” you have to have the permission of Congress. To bomb the shit out of a country because you think they’ve done something wrong, you just have to be President.
Now, the other thing to consider, is that the country elected the President, and in theory are authorizing them to make decisions on the country’s behalf. And like it or not, that has happened here.
So is it cool that Trump bombed Syria without congressional approval, after tweeting about it and being embroiled in a scandal involving both, the makers of the weapons that he’s angry about AND the neighboring allies of the country he’s bombing.
Is it cool? Is it ok? How do you feel about it?
