Russia's nuclear powered autonomous torpedo, Poseidon, is more commonly mentioned by Western media as doomsday weapon.
Poseidon is expected to move at maximum speed of up to 70 knots (approx 80 miles per hour), faster than any US nuclear submarine or anti-ship torpedo. It's operational depth is more than 1000 metres, exceeding the capabilities of all US submarines.Â
The unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), can only be countered by having a permanent and combat-ready counter system, where forces are on constant alert and ready for deployment. US has yet to have such a system, and it will cost US huge financial resources.Â

There are constant military arms-race between these able super-powers, and as their military arsenals get more developed, the potential for global catastrophe heightens.Â
Since WW2, superpowers have been avoiding direct conflict, aware of the potential of the global disaster they may cause. However, in the modern day, powerful states are rising behind them such as China and India. They tip the balance between the 2 "main" superpowers, and might one day cause a trigger for war as their own interests conflict with one another in the future. WW3 can happen anytime, as anything can happen. While my personal agenda is not to spread FUD, I hope people do not think for the fact that because we have had peace for so long, it will always be this way in the future!Â
