In terms of deaths attributed to Covid over the last couple of years, yes, Covid has killed more people than vitamin A deficiency. Still, beyond the 2 to 2.5 million people who die of vitamin A deficiency, millions more go blind or have other life altering aliments. The overwhelming majority of deaths from Covid are the elderly and the sick. The overwhelming majority of deaths from vitamin A deficiency are children under the age of five. So, even though the actual number of deaths from Covid are greater, it's clear that vitamin A deficiency has taken more life years over the same period of time. Namely, just looking at deaths, a 95 year-old is measured the same as a five year-old; but, the five year-old clearly loses considerably more years of life.
What's also clear is that, no matter how you put it, anti-science rhetoric against GMOs like golden rice and other crops like cassava that have been engineered to combat vitamin A deficiency have cost countless millions of lives over the last few decades and it continues to endanger the lives of children.
So, if you're one of those "Trust the science" people who are celebrating Neil Young for attacking Joe Rogan for Rogan's allegedly dangerous speech that's jeopardizing lives, remember that Neil Young's decades of activism against GMOs has killed several million more people than anybody who has decided not to get the Covid vaccine.
This is coming from somebody who is pro-vaccines and has been vaccinated. Still, I have principles and a set of moral values. It's absurd to chastise people for voicing "anti-science" views on vaccines while ignoring the pseudoscientific claims being made that are creating irrational fears and shaping international policies that are killing kids.
I am going to be consistent in opposing all censorship. If you're anti-GMO I regard you as either a moron or a moral monster; but, I'm not going to call for any anti-GMO activists to be silenced. You may speak and smart people may ridicule you. That's how this is supposed to work.
