RE: Museum Bhavan: A Museum in Your Pocket
I guess the equivalent would be a physical catalog. Instead of browsing a museum's collections online, people could thumb through it like a photo album but with captions and pictures of artifacts. Of course

I wish I knew the answers to these questions too, but it would take more market research than I am able to do. Perhaps I should hire TDC?

RE: Subscription Service for Museums
The AAM model is the only one I can see as a viable solution--otherwise, the admission is tied to having a certain product (a Bank of America card or AAA road services) that many people won't need or can't

I think you finally found an example of a nonprofit that has closed/downsized itself without being perceived as a failure. They can say, we were so successful in meeting our mission that we're no longer

RE: The Conflict Between Public Trust and Surviving
Doing the readings this week, I kept thinking back to what you're always saying about finding a way for institutions to close. Simon mentioned that decisions to deaccession are often framed as a solution

This made me think of 1984 and how the protagonist's job is to manufacture public record to support the totalitarian regime. He can barely fathom reality because he's part of the machine that destroys

I would include a provision for returning gifts to the donor or donor's estate if the institution can't find a local home for them.

I agree. I rely on my military leadership skills to be my visible skills--telling a prospective employer on a resume I was chosen to be the second in command of 78 soldiers gives them an idea about what

Sometimes I wonder if I should've become a computer programmer or IT technician. I took several programming classes in high school and built the family computer. I was always good at computer stuff. But,

RE: Another Solution for the Philadelphia History Museum?
That's hard to say without knowing exactly how much it costs to sustain the PHM's collections or if they have other debts which would come into play. However, I see it more as a long-term possibility,

I agree that for many institutions, shrinking is a good idea. Still not sure how to convince them--Stitt was successful by proving to the board that they had a crisis and needed to address it. However,

You're absolutely right about the job market. I've been looking for collections jobs, and they're all either unpaid or poorly paid internships or require years of experience. I apply to some of them anyway,

RE: Have You Tried Turning it Off and Back On?: Suggestions for the Philadelphia History Museum
The PHM is already charging lots of fees. It cost me $40 to use pictures that I took of their muskets in my research. At some point increasing fees reduces demand so much that it actually hurts overall

It would be great to get a mix of young people, experts, and even people from the target audience on the board. As long as being on the board is tied to funding, however, I don't see that happening. On

I think most of these options could incorporate Steemit. For example, the Art-Reach interns could post on Steem about what they're doing, generating funds to pay next year's interns. The History Truck
